Tanning Tips

GUIDE FOR THAT PERFECT SPRAY TAN

PRE TAN:

  • Exfoliation should be done 24 hours prior to tanning to avoid patchiness and ensure a longer lasting tan
  • Hair removal should be done 24 hours prior to tanning to allow the pores enough time to close
  • Moisturise the day before your tan, taking special care with dry areas such as knees, ankles, elbows and wrists. This will avoid the tan “sticking” to these areas and giving them a darker look

DAY OF TAN:

  • Remove make-up, deodorants / anti-perspirants, perfumes and lotions before application. They can interact with the tan during application and cause streaking / uneven tone
  • Don’t shower / bath for at least 2 hours before tan

AFTER TAN:

  • Wear dark loose clothing for at least 6-8 hours
  • No sweating for 6-8 hours. Avoid exercising & swimming
  • Wait for at least 6-8 hours before shower or bath. Ideally leave tan on overnight for the best result
  • Remember after showering / bathing to pat not rub skin dry
  • Don’t sit or lie on light coloured fabrics until you have showered
  • It is best not to wear silk, nylon or wool until you have showered to avoid possible staining

TAN MAINTENANCE:

  • Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise frequently to hydrate your skin & prolong your tan
  • Avoid long hot showers / baths as these can speed up exfoliation
  • Avoid, if possible, swimming pools and sea water as both can reduce your tan

TANNING CARDINAL SIN:

Never try to salvage a tan!

If for whatever reason your tan starts to get patchy or look cracked, do not leave the house looking like a piece of marble stone. People will notice in especially around the neck, décolletage, hands or feet. I’d rather my angels looking flawless than trashy.

Use an exfoliating glove to scrub it all off; Its better to have no tan, than to be shunned upon.

HOW YOUR TAN IS CREATED

  • Spray tans are expertly applied using High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray tanning equipment approved by The Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists
  • A spray gun is used to apply an exact combination of air and liquid tanning solution directly onto your skin
  • The treatment will take approximately 10-15 minutes to apply
  • Depending on which solution you request, your tan will take approximately 6-10 hours to develop and will continue to develop until you have a shower or bath for a period of up to 24 hours when it will reach its full colour strength
  • DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is a sugar derivative that results in the tan and was tested for safety and approved for use in the USA in 1973 and approved for use here in Australia.
  • When applied to the skin, DHA penetrates only the top layer of skin, it does not absorb into the body or bloodstream.
